2018 is here, what the heck?! I’m both in a state of panic and excitement, as I’ve set myself some semi-intimidating goals for this year. I know your YouTube sub boxes, Instagram, and Twitter feeds have been inundated with peoples 2018 resolutions but I want to use this as a way to keep myself accountable and also as something I can look back on at the end of the year. I feel like this year I’ve actually done some preparation to ensure that my goals this year aren’t a complete flop. I prefer the term “goals” over “resolutions” because a goal sounds more attainable and far less intimidating. For me, goals seem more forgiving in the sense that I can adjust them as the year goes along. As I learn throughout this year, I know I will change my process, add new goals, and get rid of some. Effectively, I want to be kinder to myself this year and allow for some trial and error when it comes to what I want to achieve.
(Side note: If you’re wondering why I’m speaking as if I haven’t started working on my goals yet, I usually start my resolutions/goals when I go back to school which is January 8th this year. I always feel most ready to start doing this type of stuff when I get back into a solid routine).
My most superficial goal this year is to revamp my skincare routine. I’ve purchased an all new set of skincare from Lush for my sensitive, combination, acne prone skin (Fresh Farmacy (cleanser), Breath of Fresh Air (toner), and Imperialis (moisturizer)). I’ve never tried Lush skincare before but I’ve heard so many amazing things about it so I’m stoked to try it out. Also, all of the products I’ve chosen for my skin are all vegan (incidentally, although many of the products at Lush are vegan) which makes me love the products even more. For the record, I haven’t been paid to say any of this, I just reeeeeeally love natural skin care. I’ve been using the products for 2 days now and I can honestly say my skin hasn’t felt this clean in such a long time. I’ll definitely be doing an updated post on how I’m finding the products within a few months.
Another goal of mine this year (slightly less superficial) is to actually eat healthier using a solid meal plan. In previous years when I’ve decided that I want to eat healthier I haven’t actually had a solid plan as to what I want “healthy” to mean for me. In the last few weeks, I’ve been preparing to follow a meal plan for the new year called Bright Line Eating. The thing I love about this eating plan is it’s not just about physical health but mental health as well. The founder of this plan encourages meditation and gratitude journaling which is totally up my street. I ate pretty well over the summer which overall improved my energy levels and made me feel really really good overall. I’m also a big fan of the concept of thinking about my physical body as a separate vessel from my spirit. Our physical body has a different set of needs than our mind and spirit. For me, eating better is one of the ways I want to take care of my body (BUT if jumping on the bandwagon of healthy eating isn’t your thing, I commend you for doing what you feel is best for you). At the end of the day, I’m unusually excited to be eating on this plan, as I’ve found various recipes based on the plan that sound absolutely delicious.
Of course, I had to throw in the infamous goal of drinking more water. I was especially bad at achieving this goal in 2017 but I WILL be better at staying hydrated this year. I have literally every insulated, portable water bottle in the universe so I literally have zero excuses to not at least try this one with everything in me.
One of my biggest (and most vague) goals for this year is to post more on the blog and create a real sense of community amongst me and the people who consume my content. I really enjoy being a part of the blogging community, as it’s surrounded me with like-minded people who push me both creatively and intellectually. Don’t ever hesitate to reach out to me on Instagram and Twitter if you want to collab or just chat about life. I would absolutely love to meet more fellow bloggers. This July will mark one full year of my blog which is such a huge milestone for me. I’m so proud of myself for sticking to this and can’t wait to see where 2018 takes my blog.
The thing I’m most excited for this year are the things that I have no idea are gonna happen. I’ve really been implementing more positivity into my life which is one of the best ways to manifest the things you want in your life. Some of the ways I’m practicing positivity and mindfulness is by doing daily affirmations, meditation, gratitude journaling, and visualization exercises. I have no clue what else this year will bring but I know things will fall into place as they’re meant to.
In addition to those goals, I have a few other things I want to do or work on this year…
Read 10 books that aren’t for school (which doesn’t sound like that many but it’s a good starting point)
Make time to learn the piano
Save more money to travel
Buy more ethically/sustainably made clothing
Be more kind to myself
Be more patient with those around me
Don’t sweat the small stuff as much (!!!!!)
I hope your year is off to a magical start. And if you haven’t it can only go up from here. Stay positive and good things will naturally come to you. Thanks for being so lovely in 2017, here’s to a wonderful, joyous 2018.
